Lately I've had massive amounts of time on my hands which eventually led to massive amounts of thinking and I should probably never be allowed to do that.
Today's topic: The natural and unnatural abilities of the mutant known as Wolverine.
Yesterday I was arguing that superheroes obtained their powers through design and not naturally...until I was trumped by the Fabbit.
She mentioned the X-Men.
Why didn't I remember the X-Men? I LOVE the X-Men.
I think I may have a logically skewed argument here.
Technically, the X-Men are humans whose genetic makeup has been mutated by evolution.
Much like unmutated humans, they are given the opportunity to exploit their natural abilities for either good or evil.
Heroes are heroes because it comes naturally to them. They may make a conscious choice to try and achieve heroic status, ie cops, firefighters, doctors, EMTs, or they may find that it is in their nature, they are instinctually heroic, saving others completely disregarding their personal well-being.
Villains are villains because they either find that they have to commit crimes in order to survive or they are products of their environments. Nature vs Nurture. Survival of the fittest. Kill or be killed.
I would therefore like to strip the X-Men of their superhero status and bestow upon them the title of hero. Not super. Just hero.
And now for today's topic of discussion, Wolverine.
Wolverine, is a superhero. Actually, he's an anti-hero, but super none the less.
Sure he was born with his ability to heal quickly, but it was this genetic superiority to others, that made him a prime candidate for military testing in the middle-of-fucking-nowhere tundras of Canadia.
Wolverine isn't known for his healing abilities, but rather for the indestructible adamantium metal that was fused to his skeleton by the military.
Design.
And he chooses to fight for the well-being of others, the proverbial good guys...though as of right now I'm beginning to question their motives. Hmmm. But we'll get on that another time.
Anyhow, back to Wolverine. Have you noticed how fucking long his claws are?
No wonder it's fucking painful for them to come out of the top of his hands, though it would probably be more feasible for them to come out of the top of his wrists.
Given the length of his claws, they must surely be "stored" in his forearms. Seriously. Measure the back of your hand and tell me that 10 inch claws are stored in there. Seriously.
Also, Wolverine must have amazing ligaments and muscles in his arms. For them to force his claws all the way down to his hands and be able to retract them instaneously is amazing. And it is only feasible that in order to have full range of motion in his wrists while fighting the claws hafta come out all the fucking way. Ouch. Six knives cutting your insides every single time you want to defend yourself or others around you? And they're permanently sharp. No honing needed. He's gotta have some sort of sheath embedded in his forearms. Seriously. And I hope he's seriously killed the nerve endings in his hands so that they don't hurt when they come out. Either that, or he's one bad-ass mother fucker.
I'm gonna say he's one bad-ass mother fucker.
There's no way he's gonna kill the nerve endings in his hands.
He's way too cool for that.
Stay tuned for more of my random rantings.
I'll probably question the X-Men's motives next time...

I realized that this silly list of things was a pretty concise description of me.
Mind you, I wrote this list more than 4 years ago.
Not much has changed.
And what has changed...is italicized. Haha.
